What is AC7004?

Posted by Doug Dore

Apr 22, 2015 9:42:00 AM

The Performance Review Institute (PRI) has created the Nadcap Aerospace Quality System AC7004 as a way for small businesses of under 100 employees such as Axenics to compete in the aerospace arena with the performance of special processes and still be on the same playing field as much larger manufacturers, without incurring the high cost of maintaining a quality system such as AS/EN/JISQ9100. Audit costs for the Nadcap Aerospace Quality System AC7004 are much less than that of AS/EN/JISQ 9100 and the AC7004 audits are performed at three year intervals.

A Brief History of Nadcap

Apr 7, 2015 10:00:00 AM

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is ultimately responsible for the creation of Nadcap. Oddly enough the SAE came into being based on engineers that wanted to set a group of standards to automobiles. It had nothing to do with aerospace. They were first called the Society of Automobile Engineers, formed in 1904 with a membership of 30 automobile engineers and incorporated in 1909 with a then membership of around 400.

Bending Inconel

Many mechanical engineers regard tube bending as a kind of “black art” compared to most other types of metal forming processes. The art of tube bending is constantly being updated and improved thanks to the latest advances in high tech software and computer systems. CNC tube bending machines have become so much more sophisticated today thanks to programs that allow us to download data off the part drawing and run simulations on the CNC bender to confirm that the part can actually be bent off as designed. This enables companies to instantly confirm if their CNC bending equipment will be capable of bending the part. Prior to this new technology most companies had to rely on their seasoned bend engineers in order to decide if the part could be run on their machinery and the process was sometimes very lengthy and time consuming. Sometimes it would take several days or weeks to get an answer based on how much of a backlog the engineer might be experiencing.

Tensile Strength and its Implication on Quality Control

Posted by Michael Bontatibus

Feb 21, 2014 12:08:00 PM

Stainless Steel tubing is used in a wide variety of industries including Semiconductor, Medical, Life Sciences and Aerospace. While heavily regulated industries like BioTech and Aerospace have stringent regulations and inspections, the Semiconductor industry has few systems in place to account for quality control. While most purchased assemblies within this industry have already passed a standard helium leak test, most buyers do not require any further testing before purchase. Inferior weld joints on tubing assemblies that might become installed into gas carrying systems have greater potential for failure over time. It is thus imperative for buyers and industry experts to be sure that purchased products have been assessed for quality by their chosen supplier.

While there’s a lot of conversation about other factors, many times price is the determining factor for many companies in the manufacturing industry. However, OEMs should remember that, while many suppliers provide similar products in the industry, not all products are created equal – regardless of price.

Behind the scenes at Axenics, we go above and beyond to ensure a high quality product –from sourcing quality materials, to ensuring a highly skilled and certified staff, to broadening our range of competent services – in addition to being price competitive. Axenics’ manufacturing process provides value as well as price.

Precision Tube Bending

Aug 29, 2013 9:54:00 AM

Precision tube bending is a unique process that takes a very skilled mechanical mindset in order to perform correctly. There are numerous companies that list tube bending within their overall capabilities but few are actually able to perfect the art of precision tube bending. Precision tube bending is the process of creating tubes that are bent without any inside or outside diameter imperfections, no wrinkling as well as minimum wall thinning and flattening.
